The Masters Degree in Speech and Language Therapy was designed as a result of the experience of of ESS-P.Porto in the education of Speech and Language Therapists (SLT), since 1981.
This degree course is organized in 3 semesters (90 ECTS) and intends to promote a profile focused on deepening noble areas of the Speech Therapy (ST). It is also oriented to prepare students to the diversity of roles which SLT have been called to play in the various contexts where they currently work. Among SLT's various areas of professional practice, three of the main investment areas of this curricular plan are explored:
- Analysis and supervision of professional practices - aims to respond to the needs of SLT with more years of professional experience, collaborating in the training of young professionals.
- Advanced Practice in Speech - intends to integrate the most current knowledge in the field of speech, considering the evolutions of the profession in terms of orofacial motor functions, voice, and verbal articulation.
- Advanced Practices in Communication and Language - It is intended to deepen methods of integrated analysis of communication and language, as well as intervention skills in the area of language-specific disorder.
The ESS-P.Porto training philosophy has been valued in this study plan, with a clear investment in practices focused on person and family centered practices, and seeking to reinforce the paradigms advocated by the World Health Organization. The plan presented is still characterized by a strong versatile component, being possible for the students to select from various curricular units of the existing post-graduate courses in ESS, allowing an investment in areas related to management, entrepreneurship and innovation.
Research is an element transversal to the 3 semesters, culminating in the development of a dissertation, a traineeship report or an action-research project that allows reflecting on current practices and promoting innovative practices.

Who should apply:
Holders of a degree in Speech Therapy or legal equivalent;
Holders of a foreign academic degree in the Speech Therapy area, conferred following a first cycle of studies organized in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to this Process;
Holders of a foreign academic degree in the Speech Therapy area, that is recognized as meeting the objectives of the degree of licenciado by the Technical-Scientific Council of ESS-P.Porto;
Holders of a school, scientific or professional curriculum in the Speech Therapy area, which is recognized as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies by the Technical-Scientific Council of ESS-P.Porto.
