The Master in Informatics Engineering aims to deepen the knowledge and skills in Informatics Engineering from a scientific and technological base conferred by a degree (BSc.) in Informatics Engineering, Computer Science or similar. The program aims to train qualified professionals to practice Informatics Engineering with high quality of scientific, technical, ethical and human skills in the broad spectrum of job profiles identified for Informatics Engineering. The program still provides the students with an education that, by its cohesion and solidity, enable those who wish to pursue careers as PhD researchers. In order to align this MSc with the market demand, the program offers a flexible and heterogeneous curriculum organized in four specialization tracks:
Computer Systems
Information and Knowledge Systems
Graphic Systems and Multimedia
Software Engineering
Program Educational Objectives
The Master in Informatics Engineering graduates:
Demonstrate high-level professional skills. Graduates are highly qualified Informatics Engineers, integrating into the global labor market quickly and predictably, applying appropriate approaches to the challenges of the twenty-first century, in which knowledge and information technologies are ubiquitous.
Reveal recognized human, societal and environmental attitudes. Graduates demonstrate social skills and ethics, professional and environmental practice through the promotion of rigorous working methods, teamwork culture and constructive social and environmental attitudes.
Demonstrate the ability to learn throughout life. Graduates demonstrate ongoing evaluation of culture and learning/improvement lifelong accepting naturally the amendments.
Pursue professional achievement. Fulfilling the mission of the ISEP, graduates are involved in interaction with universities, companies and research facilities and national and international development, thus stimulating entrepreneurship, leadership, innovation, research and development in national or international context.
Student Outcomes
When concluding the program, the graduates demonstrate:
a) An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering to informatics engineering problems.
b) An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.
c) An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability. For the Master in Informatics Engineering, this includes:
Pondering, synthesizing and evaluating existing knowledge and tools related to the problem and solution;
Design a solution (e.g. maintenance, re-engineering, construct) to the problem, by adopting appropriate informatics engineering practices and tools.
d) An ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.
e) An ability to identify, formulate, and solve informatics engineering problems, by:
Analyzing and synthesizing the problem and requirements,
Implement the designed solution,
Verify, validate and evaluate the implemented solution,
by applying appropriate informatics engineering practices and tools.
f) An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.
g) An ability to communicate effectively, by adopting appropriate language according to the involved stakeholder, and particularly the use of syntactic and semantically rigorous informatics engineering languages, artifacts and practices.
h) The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental and societal context.
i) A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning.
j) A knowledge of contemporary issues.
k) An ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for informatics engineering practice.
