The Polytechnic of Porto received, on December 2, the Ambassador Maria Dulce Barros, from the Consulate General of Brazil in Porto. In the ambit of a set of formal visits from the consulate to higher education institutions from the North of Portugal, the ambassador, accompanied by the President of the Polytechnic of Porto, João Rocha, and by the Pro-President for the Internationalisation, José Carlos Quadrado, presented a clarification session about the most various consular functions in support and assistance to the Brazilian students.
Presently, the Polytechnic of Porto has more than 600 students of Brazilian nationality attending undergraduate and masters. Many of them wish to continue their studies in Portugal, develop projects or stay here to live.
Maíra, attending the master’s in Human Resources at the Porto Accounting and Business School (ISCAP), a school of Business Sciences of the Polytechnic of Porto, is one of those examples. Born in Belo Horizonte, Maíra already knew Porto and fell in love with the city and finds it particularly poetic, “especially in the fall, with the leaves all lying on the ground, it's very beautiful to see”.
Gabriella would also like to stay in Porto and already has several projects designed. She is attending the master’s degree in Documentary Cinema at the School of Media Arts and Design (ESMAD), a Porto Polytechnic School of Media and Design, Gabriella would like to have the opportunity to present the result of her work here. For her, the experience in Portugal has been very positive, noting that "the Polytechnic of Porto welcomed me very well from an academic point of view".
Maria Dulce Barros answered the several doubts from Brazilian students, which went from general issues such as the request for the transfer of the electoral title abroad, the request of the PB4 (free health insurance from the Brazilian government), to the possibility of obtaining scholarships or simply sharing academic experiences.
The ambassador gives a very positive assessment of the session, reiterating that studying at the Polytechnic of Porto and in Portugal is an advantage for the Brazilian student "not only for the ties that unite the two countries, but also because of Portugal's economic positioning in Europe, increasingly stronger.”
The gathering also provided a meeting between the consulate and the presidency, where future collaborations were addressed.
